Sandy Run Solar

Project introduction

RWE Clean Energy is developing the Sandy Run Solar project, a 198 MW utility-scale solar project in northwestern Berkeley County, South Carolina. The project will deliver significant benefits to the local community and economy while supporting continued strategic growth in Berkeley County.

As electricity demand continues to grow across South Carolina due to population growth, business expansion and new industrial investment, Sandy Run Solar will help provide reliable, locally generated electricity to meet that need while strengthening the region's energy and economic future.

Supporting the Local Community

RWE is committed to being a long-term partner to Berkeley County by listening to local feedback, working collaboratively with community leaders, and maintaining open, transparent communication throughout the life of the Sandy Run Solar project. Community input has already resulted in a redesigned project with a significantly smaller footprint, preserving more natural land while reducing visual and land-use impacts. In addition to delivering reliable energy, RWE is investing in the community through charitable giving, workforce development initiatives, and partnerships with local organizations that will provide lasting local benefits.

Meeting Increased Energy Demand

Berkeley County and South Carolina continue to experience growing demand for electricity driven by population growth, expanding industries, and new economic development. Sandy Run Solar will help provide reliable, locally generated electricity to support homes, businesses, and future investment while strengthening the region's energy infrastructure. By adding new energy generation close to where it is needed, the project will help meet the state's growing energy needs and support continued economic growth.

Why Sandy Run Solar Matters

The Sandy Run Solar project reflects RWE's commitment to developing projects that balance energy reliability, affordable energy options, environmental stewardship, and community priorities. By combining clean energy generation, agricultural co-use of blueberry bushes and partnerships with local growers, local investment and ongoing community engagement, the project is designed to provide lasting benefits for Berkeley County while helping South Carolina meet its growing electricity needs.
