Onshore wind projects and locations in North America

Munnsville Wind Farm is our first New York State project. Consisting of 23 GE 1.5 megawatt turbines sited on ridges near Munnsville, New York, this project provides clean, quiet wind power to the Empire State. This 34.5 MW wind farm can power 10,000 homes. Generating this power with wind instead of fossil fuel avoids 62,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually and saves millions of gallons of fresh water.

Located in West Texas’ Sterling and Glasscock Counties, and with an installed capacity of 90 megawatts, Sand Bluff is adjacent to Forest Creek and Panther Creek wind farms. Our first project using Gamesa turbines, Sand Bluff can power about 27,000 homes while avoiding over 162,000 tons of carbon emissions annually and saving millions of gallons of water. Sited among working sheep and cattle ranches, RWE's wind turbines do their work next to the pump-jacks that built Texas' reputation as an energy producing state.

In March 2008, E.ON Climate and Renewables as RWE Renewables’ predecessor began commercial operation of the 55 Siemens 2.3 megawatt turbines which make up the 126.5 MW of installed capacity at the Champion Wind Farm. Each turbine stands 415 feet tall from the ground to the top of the blades. Since turbines do not use water, the farmers in Nolan County, Texas, where this project is located, welcomed the arrival of this complimentary land use into their fields.

More than 70 landowners welcomed the 249 megawatt Pyron Wind Farm into their agricultural community near the town of Hermleigh, Texas. The Pyron Wind Farm generates 249 MW of clean energy using 166 GE 1.5 MW turbines. Generating the same amount of power using a fossil-fuel based power plant would emit approximately 11.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide and consume roughly 275 million gallons of fresh water every year. By comparison, no fuel or water is consumed in the wind farm’s operation.

Completed in the summer of 2009, the Inadale Wind Farm has 197 Mitsubishi 1 megawatt wind turbines. Located near Roscoe, Texas, and spanning Fisher, Scurry, Mitchell and Nolan Counties, the energy from this wind farm will provide enough clean, quiet wind energy for approximately 59,000 American homes. The Farm producing more than 226,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually compared to a fossil-fuel based power plant.

Panther Creek I is the first of a three-phase project in West Texas, consisting of 95 GE SLE turbines with a capacity of 1.5 megawatts. With a total capacity of 142.5 MW and a production of 450 MW total (for all three phases combined), the whole complex provides enough power for approximately 135,000 homes. The three phases of Panther Creek are located near Sand Bluff and Forest Creek wind farms in West Texas, with a footprint spanning parts of Glasscock, Sterling and Howard counties. Revenues from Panther Creek have helped fund significant new initiatives at local schools.

Panther Creek II is the second of a three-phase project in West Texas, consisting of 77 GE SLE turbines with a capacity of 1.5 megawatts. With a total capacity of 115.5 MW and a production of 450 MW total (for all three phases combined), the whole complex provides enough power for approximately 135,000 homes. The three phases of Panther Creek are located near the Sand Bluff and Forest Creek wind farms in West Texas, with a footprint spanning parts of Glasscock, Sterling and Howard counties. Revenues from Panther Creek have helped fund significant new initiatives at local schools.

Panther Creek III is the third of a 3-phase project in West Texas, consisting of 133 GE SLE turbines with a capacity of 1.5 megawatts. With a total capacity of 199.5 MW and a production of 450 MW total (for all three phases combined), the whole production provides enough power for 135,000 homes. The three phases of Panther Creek are located near the Sand Bluff and Forest Creek wind farms in West Texas, with a footprint spanning parts of Glasscock, Sterling and Howard counties. Revenues from Panther Creek have helped fund significant new initiatives at local schools.

Rising from the farmland of San Patricio County, Texas, Papalote Creek I is a 109 Vestas V82 1.65 megawatt turbine project with a capacity of 179.9 MW. It is our first coastal project, as well as our first US project using Vestas wind turbines. In combination with Papalote II it avoids producing more than 684,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and saves half of a billion gallons of fresh water every year compared with a conventional steam-driven fossil fuel plant.

Located in the farmland of San Patricio County, Texas, Papalote Creek II consists of 87 Siemens 2.3 MW turbines, with a nameplate capacity of 200.1 MW. In combination with Papalote I it avoids using more than 684,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and saves half of a billion gallons of fresh water every year compared with a conventional steam-driven fossil fuel plant.

Peyton Creek Wind Farm, a 151 MW onshore facility located in Matagorda County, Texas, is powered by 48 Nordex 3.15 MW turbines and can generate enough electricity to power more than 45,000 homes. The project is located in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas south market.

Located in Somerset County, Stony Creek is our first project in the PJM market in Pennsylvania. Stony Creek’s 35 General Electric 1.5 megawatt turbines bring 52.5 MW of renewable generation to the Keystone State. Stony Creek was constructed on a reclaimed surface mine, harnessing the inexhaustible wind over land that once produced coal.

Located in Iroquois and Ford counties, Pioneer Trail is our second project in the MISO market and in Illinois. Pioneer Trail’s 94 General Electric 1.6 megawatt turbines bring 150.4 MW of renewable generation to the Land of Lincoln. This wind farm can power more than 45,000 homes.

The Wildcat I Wind Farm, located in Tipton and Madison counties, is our first wind energy project in Indiana. One hundred twenty-five GE 1.6 megawatt turbines provide more than 200 MW of power—enough to provide clean power to more than 60,000 households.

The Anacacho Wind Farm, in Kinney County, Texas, is located approximately 14 miles southeast of Brackettville and consists of 55 Vestas 1.8 megawatt turbines providing 100 MW of power—enough to provide clean power to more than 30,000 households. It is sited on land also used for livestock ranching and hunting.

In December 2014, we began commercial operation with the 118 GE 1.79 megawatt turbines which make up the 211.2 MW of installed capacity at the Grandview I Wind Farm. Each turbine stands 427 feet tall from the ground to the top of the blades. Since turbines do not use water, the farmers and ranchers in Carson County, Texas, where this project is located, welcomed the arrival of this complimentary land use into their fields.

The project, located east of Amarillo, Texas, has an installed capacity of 200 megawatts and became fully operational in April 2016. The 112 GE 1.79 MW turbines can generate enough energy to supply 64,000 households with CO₂-neutral electricity. Named in honor of Doug Colbeck, an former employee and wind park developer who died from a serious illness, this is the 20th wind farm that RWE has put into operation in the US.

Radford’s Run is a 305.8 megawatt (MW) wind farm, located in Macon County, Illinois, consisting of 139 Vestas V110-2.2 MW turbines that can create enough electricity to power approximately 90,000 homes. The project, named in memory of a long-time employee Mike Radford who passed away after battling cancer, came online in December 2017.

Stella is a 201 megawatt (MW) wind farm, located in Kenedy County, Texas, powered by 67 Acciona AW-125 3.0 MW turbines. The project can create enough electricity to power more than 60,000 home and establishes RWE’s leadership in coastal wind project with more than 1 gigawatt (GW) in operation. Stella came online in December 2008. 

On January 19 2021, RWE has signed an agreement with Greencoat to sell a 24% stake in four RWE onshore wind farms in Texas, including the Stella Wind Farm. Due to that, the asset will be 51% owned by Algonquin, 25% by RWE and 24% by Greencoat.

Cranell Wind Farm, a 220 MW onshore facility located in Refugio County, Texas, is powered by 100 Vestas 2.2 MW turbines and has the capacity to generate enough electricity to power more than 66,000 homes. The project represents an investment of $250 million.

Raymond is a 200 megawatt (MW) onshore windfarm located in Willacy and Cameron counties, Texas, and is the first of a two phase project in the area. The project is powered by a total of 91 Vestas V120 and V110 – 2.2 MW turbines and generates power for more than 60,000 households. It will benefit from a 12-year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy.

Cassadaga Wind Farm is a 125 MW wind farm located in the Towns of Charlotte and Cherry Creek in Chautauqua County, NY. The project is located primarily on agricultural and recreational land and includes 37 turbines. Cassadaga came online in 2021 and has the capacity to generate sufficient clean energy to power over 37,000 homes.
