AUSTIN, Texas, August 15, 2023

RWE, a leading renewable energy company, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of just 20 energy service companies (ESCOs) to provide Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) for federal agencies.

The program, now in its 25th year, is a way for the government to leverage private capital to improve the efficiency and sustainability of federal facilities.

“We’re extremely honored to be chosen as a trusted partner by the Department of Energy to develop innovative solutions and drive technological progress for federal facilities,” said Mark Noyes, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, a subsidiary of RWE AG. “As we continue to expand our portfolio of renewable energy projects in the U.S., we’re happy to bring our customers along with us on our path to a sustainable future.”

Energy Savings Performance Contracts allow federal agencies to accomplish energy savings projects without special Congressional appropriations. As a designated ESCO, RWE will conduct a comprehensive energy audit and identify improvements to save energy, generating cost savings sufficient to pay for the project over the term of the contract.

RWE Clean Energy operates a renewable energy portfolio of about 8 gigawatts installed capacity, making it the number four renewable energy company in the U.S., and the second largest solar owner and operator in the U.S. RWE Clean Energy’s strong position in renewable energy is a result of combining RWE Renewables Americas with Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses, acquired by RWE in March 2023.
