Dogwood BESS

Project Introduction

The Dogwood Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a visionary project by RWE, located south of Roopville in Carroll County, Georgia. The facility is set to deliver 100 megawatts (MW) of energy storage capacity, designed to balance electricity supply and demand while increasing reliability and grid stability for Georgian homes and businesses.

RWE's Dogwood BESS will serve as a cornerstone of clean energy storage innovations in the region. The facility’s advanced technology will allow for efficient storage of energy generated by power plants in the region during periods of low demand and redistributing it when the community needs it most. By storing and managing clean energy, Dogwood BESS not only supports grid reliability but also promotes energy independence and economic development in Georgia.

Currently under development, Dogwood BESS is part of RWE's broader initiative to expand its clean energy footprint across the United States. This forward-thinking project embodies RWE’s commitment to enhancing America’s energy solutions by combining innovation, reliability, and support for local communities.

The Dogwood BESS project directly addresses America’s growing energy demands with innovative, grid-stabilizing solutions. By providing 100 MW of energy storage, RWE is ensuring that homes and businesses in Carroll County and beyond benefit from a reliable energy supply.

Energy storage systems like Dogwood BESS are essential for stabilizing the grid as more renewable capacity is added. They act as a buffer, storing energy when generation exceeds demand and discharging it when it’s needed most. This ability not only strengthens the grid but also mitigates costs associated with fluctuating energy prices, offering stability for consumers.

Moreover, the project aligns with RWE’s position as a leader in clean energy innovation, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing grid performance while also promoting environmentally sound and economically viable energy solutions.

Protecting the Environment and the Community

The Dogwood BESS represents more than just technology; it symbolizes RWE’s vision for a sustainable and resilient energy future. By investing in American energy infrastructure, RWE is paving the way for broader economic growth, creating U.S.-based jobs, and enhancing energy resiliency.

For Carroll County, the benefits extend far beyond the operational lifetime of the battery itself. Following decommissioning, all associated equipment will be removed, leaving the land ready for agricultural use. This ensures the project has a minimal long-term footprint while still delivering lasting economic and infrastructural benefits to the local community.

As part of its broader U.S. renewable energy strategy, RWE continues to make projects like Dogwood BESS a centerpiece of its efforts to build clean, reliable, and American-made energy solutions. Through these investments, RWE is committed to supporting rural economies, fostering energy independence, and driving the nation’s clean energy transition forward.
