Basecamp BESS is a proposed standalone battery energy storage project in the Town of Pomfret designed to support local energy needs while delivering meaningful local benefits and minimizing impacts to the surrounding community. Basecamp BESS is designed to deliver long-term value to the Town of Pomfret and Chautauqua County by supporting 110 local jobs, strengthening the tax base with an estimated $11+ million in PILOT revenues, and building on RWE's existing commitment to the region. Through new economic investment, partnerships with local stakeholders, and ongoing community engagement, the project aims to provide meaningful benefits that extend well beyond construction.

A stronger grid is not an abstract idea. Basecamp Storage is designed to support that kind of reliability in Chautauqua County and the surrounding region.
Battery energy storage works by holding electricity for later use. When there is more clean electricity available than the grid needs at that moment, the system can charge. When demand rises, the battery can send electricity back to the grid. That fast response helps reduce strain during peak demand and can improve power quality. It also helps the region make better use of electricity produced nearby, which supports American energy independence and reduces reliance on power imported from other regions. For local residents, the benefit is practical: a grid with more tools to manage demand, keep service stable and support economic growth.
