Baron Winds Project

The Baron Winds Project is a wind-powered electric generating facility located in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont, and Wayland within Steuben County, NY.

Baron Winds LLC constructed the facility in two separate phases (Phase I and Phase II), following approval of this phased approach on April 27, 2020. Baron Winds is located primarily on agricultural and recreational land, and both phases of the project consist of turbines with tip heights less than 650 feet, roads, and collection lines throughout the 25,000 acre project area. The project's point of interconnection is the existing Canandaigua substation.

The Baron Winds Project was subject to New York State's Article 10 Siting Process and obtained all required state, local, and federal permits prior to construction and operation. Phase I of the Baron Winds Project was completed in 2023 and consists of 32 wind turbines in the Towns of Cohocton, Dansville, and Wayland. Phase I is capable of generating up to 122 MW of energy. A map of the Phase I layout can be found here.
