Flexible Generation

Dispatchable power to meet demand

World-class experience and expertise

We develop, build and operate flexible generation, including natural gas-fired power plants in the U.S., driving American energy independence and reliability while strengthening our power grid with fast , dispatchable power that supports America’s rapidly growing energy needs.

RWE brings deep expertise and more than 125 years of experience operating many forms of power generation. From responsible siting and development to safe construction and operations, we are a committed and engaged partner in the communities where we operate.

Flexible Generation Basics

Natural gas-fired power plants are part of an integrated power system that can provide fast, dispatchable power at times of high demand.  The strategic importance of natural gas-fired generation lies in its ability to complement renewables. While wind and solar are variable by nature, gas plants provide essential flexibility, quickly stepping in when renewable output is lower.

Together, these different types of generation can combine to deliver round-the-clock, much-needed power.

In a flexible generation power station, natural gas is combusted to spin a turbine similar to an airplane engine. However, instead of jetting you to your next destination, it’s producing affordable electricity alongside our leading renewable energy portfolio.

These power plants  respond i rapidly and will support stable grid during extreme weather and high-demand periods. A diversified, balanced grid helps ensure reliability, affordability, and supports system operators managing rapid load growth.

Flexible generation enhances RWE’s 24/7 renewable-led portfolio by delivering firm energy capacity when needed.
